“Our achievements are the things we have accomplished – our fruitfulness is the positive long-term effects of these achievements on others” - H Nouwen

On my 12th birthday I received a special present. A small autograph book in which my friends wished me well while others wrote quotes that inspired me. That was the beginning of a lifelong collection of inspirational thoughts. After many years of reading books and thousands of quotes and stories. I gathered only those that touched my life. The wisdom of masters withstood the test of time. It’s true and universally applicable.

From my collection then, I want to share with you, to apply, teach and inspire others.

“If you have grown because of someone, help someone grow because of you” - Orina

Most of the quotes mentioned are by well-known authors. Therefore, not my own. Through this gesture I would like to give them the recognition which they deserve.

If you need inspiration on any specific topic, feel free to contact me.

GOLIATS IN JOU LEWE

VERSOEK AAN ELKE SPREKER BY N PRYSUITDELING.

ROSE – HER STORY

The first day at college our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t know. As I looked around, a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady, beaming at me. She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” “Of course, you may!” I responded. “Why are you at college at such a young and innocent age”. I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich

“Let go, let God.”

TWYFEL JY SOMS OOR GOD SE BESTAAN?

As God dan bestaan, sal daar so baie siek mense wees? Sal daar dan so b

A Pound of Butter

Once, there was a farmer who regularly sold butter to a baker. One day, the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting the exact amount that he asked for. He found out that he wasn’t, so he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer if he uses any measure to weigh the butter. The farmer replied, “Your Honor, I’m primitive. I don’t have a proper measure, but I do have a scale.” The judge replied, “Then how do you weigh the butter?” The farmer replied;

SOMEONE SLOWING YOU DOWN ?

The next time you feel impatient with someone who is slowing you down, think of this story. A young woman’s car stalled at a stoplight. She tried and tried to get it started, but had no luck. The driver in the car behind her added to her frustration by laying on his horn. She got out of her car and walked back to the other car. The man rolled down his window in surprise. “Tell you what” she said. “You go start my car and I’ll sit back here and honk the horn for you” MORAL OF

MANDELA'S LEGACY.

He came to earth like all of us, created for a purpose. Not leaving us a legacy, but lived it here amongst us. For us to see, to hear to learn and build a rainbow nation. He dreamed about a land of grace where bitterness for others are put aside and love prevails – while caring for each other. He taught us to be masters and captains of our souls. That everything is possible in reaching f

THE HAMMER APPROACH - JOHN MAXWELL

Never use a hammer to swat a fly off someone’s head. Some people think that a hammer is good for anything and everything. You could say they take a hammering approach to life. I’ve observed this attitude most often among high achievers. When they give something their attention, they go at it full bore. That’s usually a good approach to task. It’s however, a terrible way to treat people. As psychologist Abraham Maslow observed, “If the only tool you have is a hammer, You tend

TIME

THE DEPARTMENT STORE: William Rehnquist. Chief Justice. U.S. Supreme Court Another way to look at life is to see it as a different kind of department store. A store where such things as success, love of music, a six-handicap golf game, a close relationship with your son or daughter, and many other similar things are for sale. But the commodity with which they are purchased is not money, but time. And quite contrary to the way the capitalist system works with money and goods,

SCULPTURE

I took a piece of plastic clay – and idly fashioned it one day. And as my fingers pressed it, still it moved and yielded to my will. I came again when days were past; the bit of clay was hard at last. The form I gave it still it bore and I could fashion it no more! I took a piece of living clay, and gently pressed it day by day, and molded with my power and art, a young child’s soft and yielding heart. I came again when years had gone; it was my child I looked upon. He still

GOD'S FORGIVENESS

"Come now, let us argue this out," says the LORD. "No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool. Isaiah 1:18 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15 Groete Koekie Erlank. #KoekieErla

DO YOU MISS OUT ON LIFE?

Irrespective of what happened yesterday or last year, and what may or may not happen tomorrow, the present moment is where you are - always! We allow past problems and future concerns to dominate our present moments. Often convincing ourselves that “someday” will be better than today. And actually “someday” never arrives. The present moment is where you are - always! Richard Carlson Don’t “Life is what’s happening while we’re busy making other plans” When we’re busy making “

DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS

In the Far East the people plant a tree called the Chinese bamboo. During the first four years they water and fertilize the plant with seemingly little or no results. Then the fifth year they again apply water and fertilizer – and in five weeks’ time the tree grows ninety feet in height. The obvious question is; Did the Chinese bamboo tree grow ninety feet in five weeks? or did it grow ninety feet in five years?. The answer is; It grew ninety feet in five years. Because if at

MOTHER

I see now that she kept us all together like beads upon one string, both large and small, the multi colored necklace of her years. We were all precious to her fingers whether of glass or gold. In us she held her sum of laughter, love and tears. And loving her, we understood each other in dim awareness of the pattern wrought. By her, our mother – that slender thread unseen, yet found us one unto another with pride of heritage. Must we be caught less closely now- when she we lo

THE LEGACY WE LEAVE IS THE LIFE WE LEAD

I found that every day I had an opportunity to make a small difference. I could have coached someone better, I could have listened better, I could have been more positive toward people, I could have said "Thank you" more often, I could have... The list just went on and on.. Each day provides us with countless chances to make a difference. The chance might come in a private conversation, over the dinner table with our families, when we're speaking to someone, or even in the wa

EXCELLENCE

Challenges in the RACE for Excellence. The best way to answer the question, "Why do you seek excellence?" is by asking another; "Why should not we seek excellence?" With each new day in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing he must outrun the fastest lion or perish. At the same time, a lion stirs and stretches, knowing he must outrun the slowest gazelle or starve. It is no different for the human race. Whether you consider yourself a gazelle or a lion, you simply have to run fa

IN TIMES LIKE THIS

BROKEN TOYS As children bring their broken toys, with tears for us to mend. I brought my broken dreams to God, because He was my friend. But then, Instead of leaving Him in peace to work alone, I hung around and tried to help, with ways that was my own. At last I snatched them back and cried, “How can you be so slow?” “My child” He said, “What could I do, you never did let go?” Let go – let God!!! Sometimes God will move the mountain because you believe He can, sometimes you

LAWS MADE BY MAN.

There, in the middle of the cornfield, by the side of the crystalline stream, I saw a birdcage whose rods and hinges were fashioned by an expert’s hands. In one corner, lay a dead bird, and in another two basins – One empty of water and the other of seeds. I stood there reverently, as if the lifeless bird and the murmur of the water were worthy of deep silence and respect. “In Gods field of beauty, at the edge of the stream of life, I was imprisoned in the cage of laws made b

THIS IS WHAT THE LORD SAYS:

“Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear whe
